2014 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop

Today is my day on 2014 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop hosted by Beth @ Plum and June. I'm so excited to be a part of such special event. For those who don't know me yet and who may know some about me, 'welcome' to my blog and please allow let me introduce myself once again. I'm Bee from Bangkok, Thailand. I used to work in IT industry, but now I'm a full time housewife.

Pink Almond Quilt
My husband and I when we was travelling in Northern Thailand

I started sewing 2 years ago since my husband bought me a second hand sewing machine from his colleague. At that time, I had no idea how to use it, so he learned from the colleague, the seller, then he taught me when he came back from work. Is it amazing? I learned how to use the sewing machine from my husband!

Since then, I have been addicted to sewing everything, e.g. purse, bag, device case, scarf etc., until I got to know the art of quilting. Patchworks & quilts became the majority of my works, and luckily I have had a chance to learn quilting from a famous Japanese quilter, Akemi Shibata. She is so inspiring to me, and I feel more than happy every time that I join the class.

Here're some of my favorite works. They are all hand pieced & quilted. I used the sewing machine only at bindings.

I feel really proud of myself when I finished the sea themed wall hanging especially the blocks that I designed, i.e. the whale, squid, lighthouse, yacht.

Music : Jim Brickman, Richard Clayderman
Food : Rice with Thai style omelette (or "Kai- Chiao" in Thai), Tom Yum, Tuna sushi
Dessert : Chocolate Cake
Dream trip : Maldives, Switzerland, Prague

I also have some tips to share with you, although I have only little experience.

Quilting tip
If you don't have a patchwork board, which is a bit pricey, you can use a super fine grit sandpaper instead. It can prevent the fabric slipping when marking lines around template and doesn't harm the fabric at all. Here is mine.

I sticked the superfine grit sandpaper on small plywood and made a jacket for it.

Blogging tip
I always put the best picture at the first place in each post because it will be shown in Bloglovin feed. I hope that the pic can catch people eyes.

Well, I believe you know me better now. Before you leave, I have a question for you. Do you usually name things around you, e.g. car, etc.? I'm thinking to name my sewing machine now. Let me know what yours is.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Please also check out other talented quilting bloggers as listed here.

  1. I hadn't realized about the top photo being the one Bloglovin' snatches. That's good to know.

  3. I think you must have had great teachers in your husband (!) and Akemi, Bee, as everything you make is beautiful.
Yes, I name things. I drive a Mini Cooper called Button. I have a dressmaker's dummy called Gertrude. I have not yet named my sewing machine. Perhaps I should!

  4. Nice to meet you Bee, Such beautiful work you have shared with us. I have noticed this trend of giving your sewing machine a name I haven't yet but who knows.

  6. Your work is very very nice! If I named my sewing machine right now, I would not be able to tell you what I wanted to call it! (It is at the repairman again!)

  7. I named my sewing machine "the beast" because she is temperamental and although I love her, we don't always agree on what we should be creating together. :) I admire you for hand piecing - the only place I do hand work is on my bindings, which is the reverse of you, how interesting!

  8. I just got a new sewing machine and haven't named it yet. I've been thinking but a name hasn't stuck yet. Now my long arm is named Abby.

  9. Nice to meet you. I'm not a namer. Many of my friends are but rarely do I name object. My dogs however have many nicknames and answer to them all. Happy Quilting

  11. Your quilts are beautiful! How fun that your husband taught you to use the sewing machine! I don't name things usually, though sometimes I refer to things as 'he' or 'she'.

  12. What beautiful workmanship! I love the fabrics you use, and the designs you execute. I don't really name things unless they are alive, like pets. I do refer to them as him or her though, for some reason. Good luck naming your machine!

  13. I have a board like yours, and now I want to make a cover for it. I mostly machine piece, but I just started my third hand pieced quilt. I haven't named my sewing machines, I just call them by their brand. However, I did name my sit down quilting machine Princess El... Short for elephant, because she's big!

  14. Lovely projects Bee! I usually don't name things, but once in a while something we own will get a special nickname.

  16. I love your work, exquisite! I hadn't thought of leading with my best pic, but it makes so much sense, thank you.
No, I don't name my things, though I once had a car called Thumper. Though I refer to the sewing machines as Big Brother and Little Brother....

  17. Hi there, fellow blog hop post! Good tip on the careful placement of your best pic. I had never thought of that! As for naming things, I do tend to name my cars, but I can't say I've ever named my sewing machine! :)

  18. Visiting from the Plum and June Blog Hop. I'll be a no-reply blogger, but I cannot do anything about that as Blogspot doesn't like Wordpress. No, I don't name inanimate objects. Cute projects. Carole @ From My Carolina Home

  19. Hi Bee, I love your sea themed wall hanging, the different blocks are so cute! I haven't named my sewing machine, but I've noticed many people do. Maybe someday a name will come to me... then my husband will really think I've become a crazy quilt lady, ha! Nice to meet you!

  20. Love that your husband brought home the sewing machine & helped you learn to use it. Your work is beautiful. I don't name objects but I have friends who do and I've read many quilters blogs who have named their sewing machines.

  21. Love your sandpaper tip. One of my favourite holidays was to Thailand! I don't name things either I have two sewing machines and they are called the small Pfaff and the big Viking! So maybe in a descriptive way I've given them names?

  22. I love that your hubby taught you to use your machine! That is so fun! I love your quilts! I cannot hand piece but love the look! It is so nice to meet you!

  23. Beautiful work Bee, and it is fun meeting another quilter in Asia - yay!

  24. Hello, nice to meet you! Your work is beautiful, and all hand pieced! Wow, I can't imagine having that much patience (or time!!). That's a good blogging tip, I don't use Bloglovin' so I didn't know that. I read in Feedly and I see all the pictures, unless the blogger only allows the first lines to show in the feed, then I don't get any pictures.

  25. Nice intro, interesting projects. My sewing machine is Brother and since I don't have a real brother I just call it Brother, lol. I like to confuse my readers from time to time with Brother and brother.

  26. Late visit from the blog hop. Your work is beautiful, you must have so much patience for all that hand piecing and quilting. I'm afraid I don't give names to any 'things' really, I have 4 children and have enough trouble getting all their names right without adding any more confusion!

  27. Bee, your work is beautiful for being a beginner quilter! Pink and Green are my 2 favourite colours as well.

  28. Hi, Bee! Popping over from the hop. Your handwork is beautiful. I haven't hand sewn anything in as long as I can remember, so I am always in awe of others who can, and you do it so well! As for naming things, no, I don't. My machine is anonymous ; )

  29. It's so nice that you do (and enjoy) handwork! I would love to do some hand quilting and I do the last part of the binding by hand but I don't know that I'd have the patience to hand piece anything unless it was small. I tend to not name anything but I do give my kids many, many nicknames!
